Major Among Five Soldiers Martyred in Balochistan Anti-Terror Operation: ISPR

A field-level sanitisation operation in Balochistan’s Barkham district resulted in the martyrdom of five personnel, including a major-ranked officer, while seven militants were killed during the exchange of fire, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Wednesday.

The operation was conducted in the Nosham area of Balochistan by joint teams of the Pakistan Army and Frontier Corps Balochistan. Security forces targeted suspected members of what the state describes as “Fitna al Hindustan,” a label used for militant groups operating in the region.

According to ISPR, troops engaged a group of terrorists after locating their presence, leading to a fierce exchange of fire. Seven militants were killed during the encounter, and weapons, ammunition, and explosives were recovered from their possession.

However, during the intense firefight, five soldiers embraced martyrdom, including Major Tauseef Ahmed Bhatti (31) from Pakpattan, Naik Fida Hussain (36) from Sukkur, Sepoy Zakir Hussain (32) from Skardu, Sepoy Suhail Ahmed (21) from Khanewal, and Sepoy Muhammad Ayaz (24) from Rahim Yar Khan.

ISPR added that clearance and sanitisation operations in the surrounding areas are still ongoing to eliminate any remaining militants.

The statement reaffirmed that counter-terrorism operations under the national framework “Azm-i-Istehkam” will continue with full force to eliminate foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.

In recent months, Balochistan has witnessed multiple intelligence-based operations. In March, security forces killed 15 militants in Harnai and Basima, while earlier in February, 10 militants were eliminated in Zhob during separate operations.

Officials also noted a broader surge in militant activity in Pakistan since 2021, following the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan, with repeated calls by Islamabad for action against cross-border militant sanctuaries.
