Most of the overseas players have arrived, and teams are busy with their practice sessions and preparations. Warm-up matches are also being played as teams get ready for the tournament.
New teams, player changes, and strong fan energy build hype for the upcoming season
The excitement around the Pakistan Super League is reaching its peak as the much-awaited PSL 2026 season is all set to begin on Thursday, March 26. Cricket fans across the country are gearing up for another thrilling edition, filled with new rivalries, fresh talent, and major team updates.
This year’s tournament will kick off in Lahore, where the first phase of the competition will take place. A total of 22 matches are scheduled in Lahore, while the remaining 22 matches will be played in Karachi. The playoff structure is also split between the two cities, with one playoff in Karachi, while the final two playoffs and the grand final will return to Lahore, promising a high-energy finish.
However, there is another big change this season. Matches will be played without spectators, as the tournament will be held behind closed doors. This decision has been taken due to the current tense situation in the region involving Iran, Israel, and the USA, to ensure safety and manage the overall situation.
Because of this, fans will not be allowed inside stadiums, and tickets that were already purchased will be refunded to the fans.
Almost all overseas players have now arrived in Pakistan, mainly gathering in Lahore as teams finalize their preparations. In a unique setup this season, all franchises are staying in the same hotel and training at a shared ground, practicing one after another. Teams are also playing warm-up matches to build momentum, including an exciting practice clash between Karachi and Pindiz.
However, the road to PSL 2026 hasn’t been smooth for all teams. Several players have been ruled out due to injuries just before the start of the tournament, forcing franchises to make last-minute changes. The Pindiz franchise has been particularly active, making some big replacements. They brought in Usman Khawaja as a replacement for Laurie Evans, while Cole McConchie came in for Jack Fraser-McGurk. Additionally, Saad Masood has been added to strengthen the squad, and Jalat Khan has replaced Zaman Khan due to injury.
Off the field, analysts have pointed out that only a few franchises are actively engaging fans with regular updates, player arrivals, and behind-the-scenes content. Teams like Pindiz, Hyderabad, and Multan have been leading in this area, while Karachi has also contributed to some extent.
Despite the tournament being limited to just two venues this year, fan excitement remains sky-high. The addition of two new teams, Pindiz and Hyderabad, has added a fresh spark to the league, and supporters are eagerly waiting to witness new rivalries unfold alongside the classic clashes.
As PSL 2026 begins, all eyes will be on Lahore for the opening matches, setting the tone for what promises to be another unforgettable season of cricket.
