RAWALPINDI: A Pakistan Air Force (PAF) trainer aircraft crashed near Mardan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during a routine training sortie on Monday, resulting in the martyrdom of two pilots serving in the Pakistan Air Force and Pakistan Navy. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the aircraft was on a regular training mission when the tragic accident occurred.

The martyred officers were identified as Flight Lieutenant Muhammad Qasim Abdullah of the Pakistan Air Force and Lieutenant Taha Abbasi of the Pakistan Navy. Both officers lost their lives in the line of duty while participating in the joint training exercise.

Following the incident, Air Headquarters constituted a Board of Inquiry to determine the cause of the crash. Officials have stated that a thorough investigation will be carried out to establish the circumstances that led to the accident.

Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, along with the services chiefs and all ranks of the Pakistan Armed Forces, expressed profound grief over the loss of the two officers. The military leadership extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and paid tribute to the dedication and sacrifice of the martyrs.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed sorrow over the tragedy, offering condolences to the families and praying for the elevation of the martyrs' ranks.

According to reports, the aircraft crashed in the Mardan area during the morning hours. Rescue teams and local authorities rushed to the site immediately after the accident. Some reports indicated that a few civilians sustained injuries on the ground, though official details remain limited as investigations continue.

The tragic incident has once again highlighted the risks faced by military aviators during demanding training missions conducted to maintain operational readiness and national defense capabilities. The nation stands united in honoring the sacrifice of Flight Lieutenant Muhammad Qasim Abdullah and Lieutenant Taha Abbasi, whose service and commitment to Pakistan will be remembered with pride.
