Nawaz Sharif Lauds Pakistan’s Role in US-Iran Ceasefire Mediation

Nawaz Sharif, President of the PML-N and three-time former prime minister, on Tuesday praised the federal government along with Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir for their role in facilitating mediation efforts between the United States and Iran.

Speaking at a meeting of the PML-N parliamentary board for Gilgit-Baltistan, attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Nawaz Sharif said the contributions of Ishaq Dar and Field Marshal Munir were highly commendable.

He noted that Pakistan’s diplomatic profile had significantly improved as a result of these efforts.

His remarks came after Pakistan reportedly played a key role in facilitating a US-Iran ceasefire agreement, reached shortly before a deadline set by former US President Donald Trump. The agreement followed discussions involving Pakistan’s leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Munir.

Earlier diplomatic efforts also led to rare direct US-Iran talks hosted in Pakistan, the first such engagement in over a decade. Although no final agreement to fully resolve tensions was reached, the discussions ended without an immediate return to conflict. Another round of talks is expected soon.

During the meeting, Nawaz Sharif also praised the performance of the Punjab government and urged other provinces to improve governance and development initiatives. He criticized the PTI-led government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over law and order concerns, questioning the situation in the province.

He further highlighted development progress in Gilgit-Baltistan, stating that the PML-N has contributed across multiple sectors nationwide.
