Imran Khan Receives Fifth Eye Treatment at PIMS, Returns to Adiala Jail

PTI Founder Undergoes Follow-Up Eye Procedure at PIMS

ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan was brought from Adiala Jail to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on Monday for a scheduled follow-up eye treatment, where doctors administered his fifth intravitreal injection after medical examinations showed improvement in his condition.

According to a statement issued by the hospital administration, the 74-year-old former premier underwent the procedure as part of ongoing treatment for an eye-related condition requiring a series of intravitreal injections. Before the procedure, ophthalmologists conducted a detailed examination and found him clinically stable.

Doctors also performed an Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scan, which reportedly indicated improvement in the affected eye. Based on the results, medical specialists proceeded with the next scheduled dose of treatment.

The intravitreal injection, a procedure in which medication is injected directly into the eye, was carried out in the operation theatre under standard medical protocols. Hospital officials stated that informed consent was obtained and all precautionary measures were followed before the procedure.

Specialist surgeons performed the injection under microscopic guidance, and the treatment was completed successfully as a day-care procedure without any complications. According to PIMS, Imran Khan remained medically stable before, during, and after the intervention.

Following a period of observation, doctors discharged the former prime minister and provided him with medical advice, follow-up instructions, and relevant treatment documents before he was returned to Adiala Jail.

This was the fifth intravitreal injection administered to the PTI founder as part of his ongoing ophthalmic treatment. While hospital authorities did not disclose the exact medical condition or medication involved, such injections are commonly used to treat retinal diseases, including diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusion, and age-related macular degeneration.

The medical update comes amid continued public and political interest regarding the health of the incarcerated PTI founder, who remains in Adiala Jail while facing multiple legal cases.

Meanwhile, PTI strongly criticized the government's handling of Imran Khan’s medical care. In a statement, PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram alleged that the repeated transfers of the former premier under heavy security for treatment amounted to harassment and medical neglect.

The PTI leader demanded a comprehensive and transparent medical examination of Imran Khan under the supervision of his personal physicians as well as independent doctors nominated by the party. He also called for Khan’s family members, including his sisters, to be allowed access during his medical treatment.

Hospital authorities, however, maintained that the latest procedure was completed successfully and that Imran Khan was discharged in stable condition after receiving the scheduled treatment.
